Head Tennis Professional at Piper’s Landing Yacht and Country Club since 1999 and recently named Director of Racquet Sports, Cullen believes that tennis is a sport that can be played for a lifetime. He practices what he preaches. Cullen began playing tennis at age five and continues to play competitive doubles against some of the best players in the country.

His own achievements in the sport are impressive, including Florida High School Tennis State Champion in 1993, All American at James Madison University, and winner of the USPTA Clay Court Doubles National Championship in 2007. He has been certified in teaching tennis for more than 20 years by the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association).

More than his own accomplishments, though, it’s the success of students that he’s coached over the years that brings a big grin to his face. Members at Piper’s can count on him for his skill in giving lessons and staging tournaments, but what they most comment on is his unflagging encouragement to try a little harder and do a little better.

With the increasing interest in Pickleball, Cullen has expanded his teaching to include this sport in his members’ clinics. He is now certified in teaching Pickleball by the IPTPA (International Pickleball Teaching Professional Organization).

For Cullen, racquet sports are also a family thing. His wife Stephanie enjoys tennis, and his sons Jaden and Dylan would much rather join the family on the tennis courts than play video games.
